Janet is an artist, poet and arts educator. Her work explores the process of mixed media and construction using found, purchased and made objects. She often combines drawing, painting and collage within the constructions. The process is intuitive as each part determines where and how they want to come together to tell the story of moments in time. She worked at The Children's Cancer Hospital, University of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for over ten years as an art teacher and was part of the team that created "Street SmART", a creative arts project for Harris County Juvenile Probation in Houston.
I love finding objects from many locations and wait for inspiration to come. The image of Wise Woman began when I found a rod iron mannequin form in lying in a neighbor's garbage pile. One of the legs was broken so I removed the others and began working with yarns, string, cheese cloth and rusted objects. I was delighted with how she turned out. She is 32" x 25" x 20" and sold she first time she was shown.
